Coach Holleran

Hockey has been a part of Coach Holleran’s life for over thirty-five years.  After many years playing defense in travel hockey,  finishing with three seasons at the 18U AA level, he played four years in the ACHA with Grand Valley State University, where he was Captain and President of the team in his senior year.  After graduation, he stayed in the game as a referee and coach, starting with an assistant coach role with the Cape Coral High School hockey club in Florida.  He relocated to back to Michigan where he coached a Squirt team in roller hockey  and a series of youth baseball teams before getting into coaching in earnest with the Hockey Association of West Kent (HAWK).  Here, he coached for many years at every level from Learn-to-Play and 8U up through the 2025 Little Caesars Yzerman Adams Playoff Champion Hawk 16U team.

Along with the many years of coaching at Hawk, Coach Holleran has also coached the Kenowa Hill Varsity Hockey team as an assistant and defense coach for the last several seasons. He strongly believe that the lessons players learn in youth sports transcend the ice, diamond, or field. Learning how to be a part of a team, to sacrifice for something greater than oneself, to recognize hard work leading to achievement, and to love and respect the game are lessons that will serve all young men and women long after they leave youth athletics.

Having coached at every level, Coach Holleran has a unique perspective of how to connect with players and knows how to find the path each needs to find their success and be ready for the next level.  From macro level to micro level details, Coach Holleran understands the game in a way that allows him to connect and develop each individual player, strengthening the four levels of hockey development:

  1. Individual Skill
  2. Team Skill
  3. Systems & Frameworks
  4. Hockey IQ

He believes it is revealed to all of us how to use the gifts each have been blessed with to serve, and Coach Holleran has been honored to do so through coaching. The relationships with the families and the players over the years, the moment when each realizes their contribution to the team, and the confidence that emanates from the players when the understand what they are capable of provides joy and fulfillment in his mission to serve.  He is committed to the growth of players as both hockey teammates and people and to help them achieve their goals to be a contributor on their teams.
