About Dishing Apples Hockey

To Dish: “In hockey slang, ‘to dish’ means to make a quick, precise pass to a teammate, often setting them up for a scoring opportunity.”
An Apple: “In hockey slang, an ‘apple’ is another term for an assist—the pass or play that directly leads to a goal being scored.”
Dishing Apples Hockey began as an idea several years ago when I was coaching in PeeWees. The original concept came about when I had a player who was playing with some equipment that was too small. Due to financial constraints, he could not get the size equipment he needed.
Feeling called, my wife & I called all around to contacts, associations, and others that we had come in contact from coaching, managing, and being a part of the hockey community. We ended up finding someone from another association who dropped off the skates needed at a shared hockey store for us to pick up. At that moment, we realized an opportunity to help others in similar situations. Originally, it was intended to be a mechanism for “dishing assists” to families in need, helping in our small way to keep kids on the ice.
As we continued to be involved more in the hockey community, we realized that one of the ways God has called us to serve is through these teams and programs. After spending many seasons coaching a variety of teams, Dishing Apples has been born to assist through coaching of split season, providing resources to coaches, connecting mentors, and connecting families in need through our Community Playmaker Program.
God calls each of us to serve in some way and our hope is that this mission will positively impact the players, families, and community that we are blessed to engage with.
